Student Welfare Activities

SSSMCRI recognizes its responsibilities to the community in which it is located, and makes an important contribution to the needy. It extends health care services and welfare support to the residents of more than 75 villages which surrounds the institute and help them to lead a better life. It wishes to be a good neighbour to the immediate communities and to collaborate with community groups, the voluntary sector, the police and other agencies for the good of all.

SSSMCRI is an integral part of the local community, making a major contribution to the economic, social and cultural attributes of the people. The institute is involved with many community ventures through both its staff and students. In-fact, the institute contributes to the development of the community through a number of partnerships and programs, including

  • National Service Scheme (NSS): The institute has been authorized to start their own National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit comprising of 100 volunteers. The unit enrols students who volunteers for social work and these students have been actively involved in the organization of the blood donation campaign in the college each year. We recognize that we have to strike a balance between the needs of students and those of the local community. NSS unit of SSSMCRI has been also involved in the Health Awareness Rally to spread awareness about symptoms and prevention of health diseases and door to door field survey
  • Youth Red Cross (YRC): The YRC is still in its nascent stages in the institute, but the impact has started to become evident. All students are a part of this Unit and they have been involved in activities like Road Safety, Blood donation campaign, Field surveys and many activities in collaboration with the NSS unit. All the planned activities are done with a unique intention for upbringing of the disadvantaged sections of the community and for their social well-being.
  • Adoption of Villages: The institute has adopted 3 villages since 2013, namely Manambathy, Mullipakkam and Gudvancherry. Since its adoption, a range of health promotion, prevention and treatment activities are being organized weekly and thousands of people have availed the benefit of these free services. In addition, the patients are also provided with consultation to specialist services, referral services, free diagnostic and treatment services.
  • Anbagam: A special school for the mentally challenged, differently-abled and elderly people has been adopted by the institute since 2013. In this special school, free diagnostic and treatment services are being offered to all the inmates on a weekly basis with the help of a trained psychiatrist and other specialists.
  • Unnat Bharat Abhiyan: The institute has been selected for the Ministry of Human Resource Development for their flagship program – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Under this scheme 5 new villages have been adopted and field & household survey have been completed in the adopted villages. Based on the results, there is a plan to start a special program for the needy and help them in their daily needs.
  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan & Swacchta Pakhwada: In order to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the rural settings, as per the mandate of UGC, field activities have been conducted time and again. However, the best part is that all sections of students are being involved and seeing that even the local residents has come forward to support the mission.
  • Women Empowerment Forum: The institute has a cell for Women empowerment and this plays a major role in bringing about the talents of women and ensuring that the rural girls and women are empowered. Members of WEF visits various rural school and conducts awareness program on menstrual hygiene, hand wash etc.
