Respiratory Medicine Activities

  1. Telemedicine: as a part of the study, “Diagnostic, Therapeutic Monitoring of Tuberculosis Patients of Silk City by Telemedicine” from October to December 2015: Anti TB drug intake of Sputum positive TB cases were monitored via video phone calls (both audio and video) and counseling as well as advices regarding adverse events, follow up sputum and contact tracing were also undertaken. This as a variant of DOTS had significantly improved the compliance and convenience of the patient. (Results published in International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2018)
  2. WORLD AIDS DAY:Conducted Poster Competition On TB – HIV Awareness by Department of Respiratory Medicine and Dermatology SSSMCRIon 1/12/17
  3. WORLD COPD DAY: Dept of Respiratory medicine SSSMCRI along with NSS and Department of Community Medicine SSSMCRI conducted ‘Public Awareness Rally on COPD on 24/11/2018’. Also our department conducted quiz on SURGICAL TREATMENT OF COPDfor CRRIs on 14/11/2018.
  4. World TB day: CME on TB update-2019 & poster competition on Tuberculosis were conducted by the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Paediatrics on 29/03/2019.
  5. Dr Viswambhar (Associate Professor) delivered a Guest lecture on VACCINES in Chettinad Hospitals and Research Institute on 18/07/2019.
  6. Dr Viswambhar V (Associate Professor) had chaired a session in “National Sleep Medicine Course, India Sleep-2019” conducted by Indian society for Sleep Research, Lung Foundation of India and Department of Respiratory Medicine held at Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute on 08/09/2019.
  7. Dr Nithin Thomas (1st year PG) was selected for the final round (South Zone) in the Image contest category of ICS National talent search in which he presented a case of “Bullous Lung Disease” conducted under the aegis of  Indian Chest Society, at Christian Medical College, Vellore on 13/9/19 and 14/9/19.
  8. Dr Venkatesh R (3rd year PG) was awarded Third Prize for Paper presentation in Tamilnadu and Puducherry State Conference on Pulmonary Diseases – 2019” conducted at Thanjavur Medical College on14/9/19 and 15/9/19.
  9. Dr Venkatesh R (3rd Year PG) awarded 8th prize at national level online quiz – CHEST Challenge 2019.
  10. Dr Sundaramurthy (Professor & Head), Dr Ajeesh K P (Assistant professor) and Dr Venkatesh R co- authored a chapter on ‘Respiratory Acidosis and Alkalosis’ in the Monograph “Approach to fluid, electrolyte and acid-base disturbances – clinical appraisal and handling” by Indian College of Physicians (academic wing of Association of Physicians of India).
