Department of Psychiatry
- The Department of Psychiatry, SSSMC/RI, is functioning since 2009. Since its inception, the staff and the faculties have been relentlessly pursuing to increase the quality of clinical, academic and research triad.
- The department has been sequentially expanded in terms of sub-specialties, patient inflow, widening of community service offered as well as research activities. The growth in physical infrastructure accompanied the expansion.
- Currently, the Department of Psychiatry is a self-contained, integrated complex with adjoining outpatient and in-patient facilities, located in the ground floor of the main hospital building of SSSMC/RI.
Vision
To be a center of excellence in compassionate mental health care, psychiatric education, and impactful research, improving mental well-being and reducing stigma in the community by providing ethical, evidence-based, accessible, and comprehensive mental health services while promoting high standards in teaching, training, research, and community outreach.
Mission
- To provide high quality, culturally appropriate, ethically driven and evidence based
- integrated mental health care with compassion & dedication.
- To participate in community mental health services, in alignment with district national
- mental health programs, to enhance mental health literacy, de-stigmatize mental illness &facilitate help-seeking.
- To provide high quality undergraduate & postgraduate psychiatric education using a
- competency based curriculum.
To carry out appropriate psychiatric research with high impact, practice changing results.
Goals
- To foster mental health advocacy.
- To provide practice based comprehensive learning for our medical professionals so as to
- enable them achieve excellence in all competency areas.
- To identify areas where additional knowledge can be created and
- which would result in better patient care strengthened through evidence based medicine.
- To develop specialties based practice.
- To expand the community based services in order to serve the sick and the underserved.
To actively participate in all national programs for envisaging health for all.
