Dept of Ophthalmology – Facilities
The Department of Ophthalmology has facilities for patient care, academics , research & extension activities.
Out patient complex
The outpatient department is housed in the first floor of the hospital building occupying a segment of an entire wing is equipped with adequate number of consultation rooms, refraction rooms, minor OT cum procedure room, class rooms & library. The consultation chambers are well equipped with slitlamp biomicroscope, applanation tonometer and diagnostic lenses, Snellens drums & other equipments. The refraction rooms are equipped with Autorefractometer with Keratometer, refraction sets.
The dept also has a state of the art Octopus 600 Perimeter that enables us to perform perimetry even under bright lighting conditions. There is an Nd:YAG LASERmachine for performing capsulotomy & Peripheral iridotomy along with the necessary Abraham lenses. Other diagnostic equipments include A scan biometry for cataract workup & Synatophore and Prism bars for Orthoptic work up and administering orthoptic exercises.We have well trained optometrist and optometry interns with high knowledge and experience in Orthoptic workup and training.
Minor OT complex of OPD
Helps us to perform diagnostic as well as curative minor surgical procedures.
Undergraduate & Post graduate training
For academic purposes the dept also has well equipped demo rooms & well stocked library with the required list of textbooks & journals.
Wet lab with operating microscope is available for post graduate training.
Wards
There are 30 beds distributed between separate male & female wards. Special wards are available for patients seeking them.
Ophthalmic OT
There is a dedicated Ophthalmic OT housed in the second floor OT complex with two operating tables, operating microscope & high end phacoemulsification machine with inbuilt vitrectomy unit (Zeiss Visulas 100).
Camp facilities
Dedicated eye camps are done twice a week & patients from surrounding villages & remote areas are brought to the hospital for surgeries & dropped back in the hospital vehicle. Under DBCS scheme cataract surgeries are done free of cost for camp patients.
