Overview of the Mortuary
The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute has a state of the art mortuary in accordance with the guidelines of the medical council of India.
Goals:
To carry out medicolegal work and perform autopsies for determination of the cause, manner of death etc. To impart training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of the practical aspects of Forensic pathology, Forensic toxicology (death due to poisoning, viscera and sample collection and preservation , proper labelling and sealing of sample and hand out formalities to the law enforcing agencies).
Vision:
To produce doctors who are well informed and are able to make observations and infer conclusion by logical deductions in cases related to medicolegal matters
Mortuary Infrastructure:
Area of the mortuary:
- 500 square metres
Cold storage:
- having a facility to keep total six dead bodies
Autopsy table:
- one (1)
Viewing gallery for students during post-mortem demonstration: has a capacity to accommodate approximate 75 students
Viscera packing room:
- One (1), with four numbers of a metallic rack for keeping organs in glass jars (for chemical & toxicological collection of viscera sample)
Reception room:
- one (1), with one table and chairs
Doctor’s changing room:
- one (1) with a table and chairs
Staff room:
- one with one table and chairs
Waiting hall:
- With facility to accommodate approximately twenty people
Police room:
One,(1) with one and table chairs
