Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology of SSSMC&RI has been functioning since from the inception of the institute in 2008.

Vision:

Our vision is to become a centre of academic excellence in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology for India and South-East Asia by 2020

Mission:

Our mission is to provide the most state of the art training to undergraduate and postgraduate students through world class advanced excellence in the field of:

  • Application of innovative educational methodologies in teaching and learning
  • Forensic research by contributing new knowledge in the field of anthropometry, psychiatry, toxicology and community Forensic medicine
  • Providing policy assistance in dealing with medico legal cases and encouraging emphatic care in medical practice

The department has highly skilled Faculty who take great passion in teaching and learning activities. Along with undergraduate teaching the department also has one post graduate student. The department also focuses on research work in the field of Forensic Psychiatry, anthropometry, Ethics, Question Documents, community Forensic Medicine & toxicology. The department also provides Consultancy on Medico-legal cases to other clinical departments.

As part of community outreach program the department has undertaken awareness sessions for farmers on safe handling of pesticides and how to identify early clinical features related to occupational pesticide exposure.

The faculties of the department are also actively involved in Leadership roles in the Institutional Medical Educational unit, Curriculum Committee, Examination Process and institutional Research unit.
