The main thrust of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is to strive towards excellence in areas which are also the focus areas of Government of India and are considered to be at the advancing frontiers of medical science and one such priority area is Integrative Medicine which is an interface between modern medicine and complementary/alternative medicine (CAM). This is a priority area and it is in this innovative step towards integrating complementary therapeutic approaches with modern medical care, SBV introduced music therapy into patient care in 2010, simultaneously initiated relevant research and further introduced professional training in music therapy in the year 2014. This is a leadership theme adopted and developed by SBV through its music therapy unit also called Center for Music Therapy Education and Research (CMTER) The music therapy practices provided by the Center target to achieve optimum health and healing of patients with a Salutogenic focus. The training programmes being unique as offered from a health sciences university, has a strong emphasis on both the art and science of music therapy and prepare the students to hone their clinical skills and begin their practice in hospital settings to use music in therapy and as therapy.
