Integrated CME & Workshop on "Introduction of Yoga in Medical Curriculum"

The event was inaugurated by our inspiring Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth Prof KR Sethuraman in presence of Registrar SBV Prof VR Srinivasan and Dean SSSMC&RI Prof J Mohanasundaram. The importance of "Salutogenesis", a conscious focus on 'sources of health' was highlighted by our respected Vice Chancellor in his lead talk where he stressed the role of Yoga in promoting health and wellness.

The CYTER team consisting of Prof Madanmohan, Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Dr Meena Ramanathan and Sri Dhanushapnadeesh gave invited talks and lecture demonstrations on Yoga, Physiological aspects of Yoga and Therapeutic Potential of Yoga.

Faculty and students of SSSMC&RI attended the sessions and participated with enthusiasm in the interactive demonstration of various Yoga techniques.

It is noteworthy that Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is a pioneer in the introduction of Yoga for all students of its affiliated medical, dental and nursing colleges through the SBV AIM HIGH initiative.

Matribasha Diwas and Swach Bharath

The events to commemorate the Matribasha Diwas and Swach Bharat were celebrated on 27th February at First floor lecture hall in the college campus. The events started at 2 pm and extended well up to 4 pm, with a hall packed enthusiastic students and faculty members. The events started with an invocation song in Sanskrit by Dr. Karthika Jayakumar Prof & HOD, Microbiology. It was followed by a presidential address by the Dean. Dr. J. Mohana Sundaram. The oath for Swach Bharath was taken by the gathering with true spirits. A talk in English about Linguistic Diversity in India was delivered by Sreenidhi – I year Student. A Song in Tamil on the topic “Bharathiyin Kanavu” was sung by G.Haripriya – II yr Student. A talk in Sanskrit titled “Maathru Devo Bhava” was delivered by Preethi - I yr Student.

A talk in Tamil on the title, “Tamizhan Enru Sollada, Thalai Nimirndhu Nillada” was delivered by Aswini – II yr Student. A Dance on the title, “Thamizh Pasanga” was performed by Santosh & Team - I yr Students. A talk in Malayalam, titled “Swagatham” was delivered by Sahal Nagash - I yr Student. A Malayalam song was sung by Aaradhana Bhaskar – II yr Student on the title of “Kizhakkupookum”.

A talk on the title of “Tamizhum Ariviyalum” was delivered by Dr.Semmal, Professor of Physiology; it was followed by the inauguration of the “Tamizh Mandram”. Another dance on the title of “Innum Enna Thozhaa” was sung by Chella Karthick - II yr Student.

An Instrumental music celebration by Joshua - I yr Student was performed on the title of “When Words Fail Music Speaks”, a talk titled as Telugu Ludikaram was delivered by Kalakota Pranavi - I yr Student, followed by a Telugu song by Vasudevayani.

CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP along with Oral and Poster presentation,on PANORAMIC PARASIGHT

The Department of Microbiology, SSSMCRI under the auspices of IAMM had conducted a two day workshop cum conference on PARASITOLOGY on 29th and 30th of July 2015.

The Workshop was on 29th July and had an overwhelming response of 50 participants, though the expectation was only 25-30. The workshop started with a formal inaugural ceremony and introduction of team members to the participants. The small group of participants were given hands on training on the following (1) ACID FAST STAIN ,(2) LPCB MOUNT & (3) FLUORSCENT STAIN OF Taenia eggs 4)COPRO CULTURE & BAERMANN TECHNIQUE 5)PROTEIN PURIFICATION & WESTERN BLOT- Taenia solium (Cysticercosis Antibody detection). 6)DOT ELISA- Entamoeba histolytica 7)APPENDICULAR FAECOLITH 8)PARASITIC STD 9)SIGHT OF PARASITES- 20 slides & 12 mounted specimens

The delegates were provided with workshop manual for their personal guidance. Apart from this each delegate was provided with heat fixed, stained smear slides & LPCB mount as a gift from the institution and a lifelong teaching material for the medical college they represented.

The following day started with the conference, “PANORAMIC PARASIGHT”. The conference started with the invocation song by the VII semester students, followed by the welcome address by the Organizing Secretary.

The inaugural function included The Presidential address by the GUEST OF HONOUR, Prof .Dr.S.C.Parija, who shared his happiness for the conference on Parasitology.

Prof. Dr. J. Mohanasundaram, Dean of the institution gave the key note address Prof. Dr. K. R. Sethuraman ,Vice Chancellor of SBVU congratulated the organizing committee in his felicitation address. Dr.J.Shanmugam , President of IAMM,in his speech highlighted the evolution of IAMM & encouraged everyone to become a member of the association. Dr.G.Jayalakshmi –President of IAMM of Tamilnadu Chapter stated that every medical college should organize CME/CONFERENCE once in a year. Souvenir was released by Dr.S.C.Parija , Vice – Chancellor and Dean Received the same. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.K.Dinesh, Assistant professor , Department of Microbiology.

The Scientific session of the day had many lectures by eminent professor. The first session was by Prof. Dr.S.C.Parija,-Director ,JIPMER,Pondicherry,who gave an insight into the ‘ Recent trends in the diagnosis of parasitic infections’. The second lecture started after the tea break and it was adorned by Dr.Lalitha Prajna,Chief Microbiologist,Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. She shared her knowledge & experience on ‘Ocular Parasitosis’. The third lecture was excellently delivered by Prof.Dr.R.Indra Priyadarshini,Head of the Dept.of Microbiology,VMKVMC,Salem. She portrayed effectively on ‘Drug Resistant Malaria-Current Scenario & future threat’.The fourth topic was discussed by the Organizing secretary ,Dr.Karthika Jayakumar,Prof & Head ,Dept of Microbiology ,SSSMC&RI on “Pulmonary Parasitic infections”.

The last topic was presented by Dr.G.Jayalakshmi,Prof & Head ,Dept of Microbiology Saveetha Medical college,Chennai. She etched a clear descriptive detailed lecture on “Zoonotic Parasitic Diseases”.

Post lunch session had 12 ORAL presentations by the participants from different Medical colleges of Tamil Nadu, in the auditorium with Dr.Anubumani, Prof of SRU, Dr. Chitra lekha –Prof of Balaji medical college& Dr.Illamani Head & Prof , Dept of Microbiology ,Balaji medical college,Chennai as judges. Simultaneously in the lobby, 21 POSTER presentations by the delegates were judged by 3 other experts:Dr. Lalitha Prajna of Aravind, Dr. R.IndraPriyadarshini of VMKVMC& Dr.Kiran Madhusudhanan-Prof of Balaji medical college.

The valedictory function which took place after the completion of the presentation, witnessed the announcement of winners of the Oral & Poster presentations with the distribution of certificates to the participants, chairpersons, speakers & resource persons by the DEAN.

CME - An Update Workshop on Research Methodology and Medical Writing

CME-Workshop on Research The Medical Education Unit of Shri Sathya Sai Medical College And Research Institute organized a workshop on Research Methodology and Medical Writing under the auspices of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University, CIDRF and SAF for the faculties of Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute. More than 50 participants attended the workshop. The stalwarts of medical education Dr. K.R. Sethuraman, Vice- Chancellor, SBVU inaugurated the workshop at 9.30 am and gave the key- note address on ‘tips to publish research papers’, while Dr.N.Ananthakrishnan, Dean – research and post-graduate studies, SBVU, updated the faculties on ‘current trends in medical research’, following him, Dr. Narasimha Rao, Professor & Head, Dept of Physiology, SSSMC & RI, elaborated on the funding sources available and the process application for the funding sources. Dr. Swayam Jothi Professor and Head, Dept of Anatomy, SSSMC & RI, provided her valuable talk on the preparing the research proposals. Dr. K.A. Narayan, Prof, Community Medicine, MGMC & RI, gave a clear view on preparing the project proposals and Dr. J. Shanmugam, Senior Deputy Director, CIDRF, SBV, shared his valuable experiences on manuscript preparation for publication, and Dr. Elumazhai , Senior Statistician & Research Consultant ,SBV helped in understanding the statistical analysis that could be used for research analysis. The workshop provided all the faculties a clear outlook on the current situation in medical research and the process of preparing the manuscript, research proposals, funding processes and publishing the manuscripts provided a strong motivation and renewed vigor for the faculties of SSSMC &RI.

4-2-2015 : Poster Presentation Competition – 9 am to 1 pm In Hospital Patient Reception Area,  Poetry Recitation & Competition 1-45 pm to 2-45 pm – Hospital Seminar Hall and  World Cancer Day Rally – 4pm at Tiruporur.

5-2-15  : Debate - Euthanasia - Is it BENEVOLANCE or MALEVOLANCE ? at 1-30 to 2-45 pm at College Ground Floor Lecture Hall

10-2-15 :  Guest Lecture on “ Pain & Palliative Care by Dr M AZHAR HUSSAIN MD, DA, PhD, HOD Pain & Palliative Care , Cancer Institute Adyar at 1-30-2-15 pm  and Short Film on Cancer - “ Checkmate” made by the students of SSMCRI was screened at 2-25 to 2-40 pm
